SRI SATHYA SAI PARENTING PROGRAMME
Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba varu always says that Parents have the primary responsibility to mould the character of their Children. Some of his preaching’s on Parenting are given below for ready reference.
Good Parenting
Parents must first practice what they want to teach their children. They should be loving, caring and virtuous in their behavior. Watching their behavior, the children will also become good.
Also Jesse Jackson says “Your children need your presence more than your presents.”
Responsibility of Parents
Mother is the first teacher, father provides support and balance. They should help each other. Parents must agree on what is good for the child. Recognize mistakes and correct them.
From the time the child is born his parents are his conscience. They must train his conscience to sustain him for life. Communicate with your children and win their trust. Set high standards of responsible behavior. Show affection to your Children without spoiling them and giving too much freedom
Important Lessons
Instill in your children the human values of Truth, Love, Peace, Non-Violence and
Right Conduct. Give your children s p i r i t u a l education. Education is for life and must develop character and inspire goodness. Book knowledge and graduation certificates are not enough. Teach your children to be truthful so they say what they think and do what they say. Teach house rules with love and discipline.
Keep children away from Pancha Doshas
Parents must see that their children be free from the pancha doshas (five faults), namely:
(1) vaag dosha (speaking bad words),
(2) drishti dosha (seeing bad things),
(3) kriya dosha (doing bad deeds),
(4) sravana dosha (hearing bad words) and
(5) mano dosha (thinking bad thoughts).
If you are able to remove these pancha dosha (five faults) from you and your children personality, you and your children will become Paramathma verily.
Discipline
Ø Have clear goals when exercising discipline. Balance love and law, be loving and yet firm. Teach your children to exercise self restraint and self-discipline in their daily life;
Ø Set limits for all things, watching TV, playing, eating, etc.
Ø If your child misbehaves correct him, he will soon understand that you have his good at heart;
Ø Control your anger. Too much freedom should not be given out of excessive Affection.” Sathya Sai Baba;
Ø Teach house rules with love and discipline.
Family Ties
Ø The entire family should spend quality time together.
Ø Sharing, caring, understanding each other, and solving problems together.
Ø “A family that prays together, stays together.”
Instill Faith In God
· Parents themselves have to be imbued with faith in God.
· Then their children will also develop faith and confidence in God.
· Parents are therefore requested to keep the above sayings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba in mind and play a vital role to become your children as responsible persons in the society. In order to become good citizens and responsible persons in the society, Sri Sathya Sai Balavikas is only the platform.
